The City of Muskogee Planning Department is responsible for developing, revising and administering the zoning and subdivision regulations for new development and new construction within the limits of the City of Muskogee. The Planning Department also prepares and administers community development grant applications. The Planning Department, Code Enforcement Division, enforces all city ordinances in reference to derelict structures, dilapidated property, accumulation of weeds, grass and trash, care of premises, off-street parking and zoning violations.
The Zoning Regulations are intended to promote the public health, safety, peace, morals, comfort, convenience, prosperity, order and general welfare of the citizens of the city, to lessen danger and congestion of public transportations and travel, to secure safety from fire and other dangers, to avoid undue concentration and overcrowding of land, to provide for public requirements and prevent undue encroachment thereon and to aid in securing the intent of the comprehensive plan. The Zoning Regulations classify and regulate the use of land, buildings and structures within the City of Muskogee. These regulations also divide the city into districts and regulate therein the use of the land and the use and size of buildings as to height and number of stories, the coverage of the land by buildings, the size of yards and opens spaces, density of population and location of buildings.
The Subdivision Regulations of the City describe the standards for subdivision and improvement of land by making provisions for adequate light, air, open space, drainage, transportation, public utilities and other needs to insure the development and maintenance of a healthy, attractive and efficient city.
